Local Yarn Stores
The Rock Stars of the Yarn World
If you are like me, you may swoon a little when you walk into a yarn store. Colors, textures and inspiration come flooding to me as soon as I open that shop door. I can spend hours in a yarn shop and will happily lay down some hard-earned cash for those beautiful products that will give me hours of joy. Half shop, half museum, a yarn store can be calming and exciting all at the same time.
But the shops don’t just happen that way. They are the results of dedicated hard work and a deep passion for the fiber arts. And like so many brick-and-mortar retailers, they need customer support – our support – to survive. The fruits of their intense labor of love can be found all over the country and the world. Where is your local yarn store?
When I walk into a yarn shop, I sometimes want to cry, because of the beauty of yarn and the good fortune of having this craft in my life. I am immediately transformed, and I am home.
Help celebrate Local Yarn Store Day this Saturday, April 27, by visiting your local shop. Many shops will have events and many companies are offering LYS Day-only products. It will be oodles of fun, and a great excuse to buy more yarn! (And Crystal Palace needles and hooks, of course!)
